Borrow from other New Zealand Libraries

• If we do not hold an item we can try to borrow it for you from other libraries on Interloan
  
• If Napier City Libraries hold the item, it can be borrowed through City Loans at a lower charge
• You must be a member of the Hastings District Libraries to make an Interloan request
• New charges have come into effect from 1 July 2010

What can I request on Interloan?

• Books (although popular new books may not be immediately available)
• Photocopies of journal/magazine articles
  
  Please talk to the Interloans Librarian at Hastings Library before requesting the following items, as there is limited availability for these:
• Music scores
• Car manuals
• Theses
• DVDs, videos,
• Music CDs
• Microfilms

How do I make an Interloan request?

• Use the printed Interloans request form available in the libraries
• Email enquiries can be made to: interloans@hdc.govt.nz
• Phone requests: please ring Hastings Library and ask for the Interloans Librarian

How much do Interloans cost?

• See Reserves, City Loan & Interloan charges
• Libraries may or may not charge us for supplying Interloan items
• Any charges will be passed on to the requestor.  You will be asked at the time of making the request whether you agree to pay charges

May I do my own searching?

• You are welcome to search other New Zealand library holdings: New Zealand Libraries Catalogue
• We cannot guarantee all items found on the New Zealand Libraries Catalogue are available to Interloan
• If you do your own searching, Interloan charges are still payable on making requests  
• See Reserves, City Loan & Interloan charges

How will I know when the item is available?

• You will receive a notice by mail or email when the item is available for you to collect
• Come in with your library card to have your request issued

How long will the Interloan take to arrive?

• We will do our utmost to get the item to you as soon as possible 
• It is difficult to estimate a date as this depends on the availability of the item

How long may I keep the Interloan?

• The normal Hastings District Libraries loan period applies
• Please note that some libraries may stipulate a shorter loan period

Can an Interloan be renewed?

• Yes, usually Interloaned items can be renewed but not always
• Please contact the Interloans Librarian at Hastings Library before the due date to renew interloans 
• You will be notified of the new date or if the renewal is declined
• You cannot renew an Interloan via the online Catalogue

Special Conditions

• Some items may be loaned as "Reference Only".  These may be used in the library only and not removed
• Some theses may need to be signed for

Overdue charges

• Interloans are now issued on borrowers' cards and the usual overdue charges apply
• Overdue notices are posted or emailed
