Roald Dahl's Lost ManuscriptDec
17 2010 A long lost short story by Roald Dahl was recently found in a garage in California and sold last night on an auction website for $1,900. It is just 2 pages long and called 'The Eyes of Mr Croaker'. It was originally written in 1982 for a storybook in which various authors wrote the openings of short stories for children to finish themselves. Dahl was paid $200, but the storybook was never published. |
St Valentine's DayFeb

Needless to say, we love books and Kim from Havelock North Library particularly likes Craig Smith's latest offering, Willbee the Bumblebee. Willbee the Bumblebee is very embarrassed when his stripy jumper gets caught on a spiky thorn and becomes unravelled. Poor Willbee doesn't know how he will get home until his friends come to the rescue. |
New Zealand Post Children's Book AwardsMar
22 2011 The finalists for the New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards have been announced and, as in previous years, there are some real crackers in the list. Follow the link below or visit your local library for more details about how to vote for your favourites. Elizabeth and Kerry are particularly enjoying the picture book 'Baa Baa Smart Sheep' by Mark and Rowan Sommerset. Sherryl Jordan's 'Finnigan and the Pirates' is also a corker with delightful illustrations. If you are interested in the First World War, Leon Davidson's 'Zero Hour' is a must-read. It is about New Zealanders and Australians who fought during the three-year long campaign on the Western Front in Europe. A timely pick for Anzac Day! |
SUPPORT THE PEOPLE OF CHRISTCHURCHMar
30 2011 Here is a fantastic way you can help the people of Christchurch rebuild their lives after the earthquakes. Visit your local bookshop and buy a copy of Quaky Cat by Diana Noonan and Gavin Bishop. Scholastic will donate half the proceeds to charity. In the story, Tiger the cat flees his home during the earthquake. Read how he is reunited with his owner, Emma, and realises that, although his house is in ruins, nothing matters more than being with the people you love most in the world. Of course, you can also borrow this terrific book from your library! |
