Topic: Catalogue Tips

Suggest a Purchase

Can't find an item in the library? We welcome suggestions for purchase by our customers.

Items are considered and purchased if they fall within our selection guidelines.  If it is decided not to purchase, an alternative is to apply for an Interloan from another library.

We encourage you to make the suggestion via the Library Catalogue, but you are also welcome to do this by phone, in person or email to Suggest a Purchase.

Reserves

You may place your own reservations online, either in the library or from home.  Alternatively, ask a librarian to place reservations for you.

When the reserved item arrives in the library you will receive a letter in the mail or by email.

Reserve charges apply

Renewals

You are welcome to renew items in person, by phone or online. See below for exceptions.

Items may be renewed once only.

There is no charge for renewing an item, but note that overdues and rental charges may apply..

Rental items cannot be renewed online, however you are welcome to renew rental items in person or by phone.  The rental charge is payable for the new issue period.

My Account - PIN Number & User Name

Adding a PIN to your card enables you to log into My Acccount at the Catalogue and access many online services.

It also enables you to login to ePukapuka Overdrive and borrow eBooks

Ask at the circulation desk to have a PIN number added to your library card and ask about having a User Name, so that you may:

  • Place your reserves
  • Check your library card for items on issue, overdues, reserves and personal details.
  • Renew items (once only)
  • Create Email Alert Profiles
  • View a list of previous items you have borrowed.
  • Create Suggestions for Purchase

You may update your PIN number online too...

Email Alerts for New Items

Would you like to be emailed when the Hastings District Libraries purchase new items by your favourite authors, on favourite topics or even add to a favourite collection, e.g. DVDs?

You may set up alert profiles so that when new works meeting the criteria are available, you will be sent emails.  Reserves may be placed from links within the emails.

Add Ratings and Comments

Enjoyed a book or dvd, and would love to tell everyone about it?  Did you know you can add a short review on the Catalogue and give your favourite books star ratings?

The number of stars displayed is an average of the ratings given to this record by the reviewers. Ratings are given as a number between 0 (very bad) and 10 (very good).

My Saved List

My Saved List enables you to compile a list of records from the Library Catalogue.  You can then use this list for a number of purposes, including: emailing details of the saved records, downloading details, placing reserves.

Please note that My Saved List works best from your own PC.  Use it for your current search only.

In the libraries the Catalogues all share the same logins, therefore you may find others have used My Saved List without clearing the results.

Reviews and more

Want to know more about the book you have found on the Catalogue?

There are now links in our Catalogue to overviews, reviews etc on Google Book Search and Library Thing for most books.

Find the link to these towards the bottom of the catalogue record - More Information.

New Item Lists on Catalogue

Would you like to browse lists of new books, DVDs, CDs or Talking books?

Links are available on our Catalogue to items received during the current and previous month.  These are constantly updated and are searchable by collection.
