'Winter Warmers' is an annual reading programme, running for six weeks during the middle of winter. Full of fun and creativity for kids, this programme is offered over the two weeks of the July school holidays and two weeks before and after.
Children enrolled in the programme receive a review booklet. In this they write reviews, draw pictures, or design covers for the library books they've been reading. They can be rewarded with incentive prizes along the way, and at the end attend a finale celebration with prizes and certificates.
This years' programme took the children on a tour of the rugby stadiums of New Zealand, starting at Trafalgar Park in Nelson, and ending up at Eden Park. Along the way they'll be stopping in at Invercargill, Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Palmerston North, New Plymouth, Napier, and Rotorua.
While the programme has limited places available, all are welcome to attend the accompanying free entertainment that will be held during the school holidays in Flaxmere, Hastings and Havelock North Libraries.
Many thanks to the ECREAD'n committee who developed the programme and to Eastern and Central Community Trust for their sponsorship.
