Book Sales

Friends of the Library organise Book Sales several times a year.

“The process of withdrawing stock is vital and requires a level of expertise,” says Paula Murdoch, District Libraries Manager, ”Ideally we need to ‘weed’ each collection annually to ensure they are up-to-date and we have room for all the new stock that our communities love to borrow.”

Selling these discarded items is one of the many ways the Friends of the Library support your libraries.

Friends of the Library

The Hastings District Libraries have a very supportive Friends of the Library (FOL) group.

Friends of the Library aim to support the Hastings District Libraries in their mission to "enrich the life of the community by providing a library service that meets people's informational, recreational and cultural needs".

What does the FOL do?
  • Foster community support for the Libraries and its services
  • Support special programmes and sponsor resources for users of the libraries
  • Advocate on behalf of the Libraries within the wider community
  • Assist with project work at the Libraries

Benefits of being a Friend of the Library
  • Satisfaction of supporting the work of the Hastings District Libraries in the community
  • Camaraderie - the opportunity to be involved with people who share a similar interest
  • Special events and the opportunity to be involved in programmes organised by the Libraries

How do I join the FOL?
  • Come along to one of our meetings, held bimonthly on the first Wednesday, in one of our three libraries
